    idk if this is a windows setting, a virus, or something wrong with my monitor, but everything looks like it has a yellowish white filter on it. it's not eye saver mode, it's much brighter than that. it makes the borders on boxes disappear into the background, and some buttons completely disappear. it does this all the time with chrome open, but only some times in other windows. every time i open a new tab or smt, it looks normal, then gets washed-out half a second later.

    i think it started when i was playing minecraft. i think i went into real fullscreen mode instead of windowed fullscreen, which made minecraft much more vibrant and seemed to add contrast and saturation, but removed it from everywhere else. even when minecraft isn't open it happens though, so i'm not sure it has much to do with that anymore.

    i can't remember right now, (and i have zoom meetings so i can't check at this second) but i think it doesn't happen immediately on startup, i think i do have to actually open minecraft first, but it stays long after minecraft is closed.

    i hope this isn't a virus :/

    I wonder why nobody has suggested the OP to make a screenshot of display showing these "washed out colors"? Everything I have read in this thread suggests that the issue is not in Windows, but instead in display / monitor.

    My suggestion: next time you'll see these washed out colors, make a screenshot and post it here. If the screenshot shows us that colors are OK, then the issue is your monitor failing.

    Desktop washed out when HDR is on.. but only after boot

    Ok so I've done as you suggested - downloaded the color profile for my monitor (Acer XB273K GP) from the Acer website. Unfortunately, that hasn't fixed the issue. Still get that washed out look on the desktop when I start Windows.

    It's not a super big deal - it only takes a few seconds to fix, or I can just leave HDR off and turn it on only when I particularly need it. It's just an annoyance really.

    Anyway, thanks again for your suggestions Everything is really washed out for some reason :)
