  2. MohanC Win User

windows 10 deleted my desktop files

Step 1 - I upgraded to Win 10 and lost all my files on Desktop.

Step 2 - Found the files in Network - USers- Desktop

copied all files again to desktop.

Step 3- Restarted my machine again and lost desktop files again.

Step 4 - As suggested did the following as listed below but dont find my files.

    • Press “Windows + E”, open This PC/Computer
    • Open Local Disc C, open Windows.old
    • Click on Users, select your User name
    • Go to desktop folder
Cant find my files. Why is Win 10 deleted files again and again from Desktop ?.

  3. Losing HDD boot sector everytime I start Windows

I have a HDD with a strange behavior.

This is a data drive. Everytime I start my system, when I access this drive the first time, Windows ask me if I want to format it.

This is a typical NTFS boot sector problem, so I fix it with the backup boot copy by using "testdisk".

This happens either I plug it as an external USB or as a internal SATA drive

However this is becoming annoying and I would like to understand why. any idea?

Unable to boot the computer to desktop

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

    1. What is the make and model number of the computer?
    2. Do you get any error while trying to boot the computer to desktop?
I can understand how something like this will cause the inconvenience. Here are the few step you can try to fix the issue with the no boot scenarios.

    Method 1

Unplug all the external devices and try to boot the computer to desktop.

    Method 2

Start your computer in safe mode. Refer the Microsoft article on
how to start your PC in Safe mode
    .

If you are able to boot the computer in Safe mode, try to check in clean boot.

Note: A ‘clean boot’ starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs, so that you can determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program.

Your computer may temporarily lose some functionality while in a clean boot environment, however, that functionality will return when you reset the computer to start normally after you have finished your troubleshooting.

Refer the article on how to perform
    a clean boot in Windows
    .

Refer the section How to determine what is causing the problem after you do a clean boot, if your device is working fine in clean boot.

Also refer the section Reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting.

You may also refer the article Troubleshoot blue screen errors
for more information and the additional troubleshooting steps

For issues with copying the files, I suggest you to refer the article
"Access Denied" or other errors when you access or work with files
    and folders in Windows
    .

Regarding the issue with restoring the files from OneDrive, Sign into the
OneDrive.com from any browser. Click the ‘?
help icon the top banner of the page and select
    Email OneDrive support
. Submit your question and follow the prompts to request support.

    Hope it helps.
