Windows 10: Excel 2019 UNC XLA blocked by Windows Defender

Hi,We have and issue when trying to add a xla reference within Excel 2019 VBA project. If UNC path is used Windows defender blocks the file. Turning off real time protection confirms defender is the issue. How can I allow the UNC path to access and open xla file. I've tried adding exclusion for defender, adding unc as a trusted location.Excel 2019 is running on Windows 2019 server.Any ideas?[Moved to Security by moderator]

protect xla files from being used thru password?

I need to lock the xla file...prevent its use... The xla get loaded with excel everytime excel is run, the file is loaded and can be used... I would like a way to prevent the xla to be loaded unless a password is entered or keypress...

 

Windows Defender is blocking too much saying it viruses

Hi Sam,

Based on the screenshot that you've provided, Controlled Folder Access is turned on, blocking most apps that you're using. We suggest that you turn it off to allow blocked apps in Windows Defender. Follow the steps below:

• Select Start > Settings.
• Choose Update & security > Windows Defender.
• Select Open Windows Defender Security Center.
• Select Virus & threat protection, and then choose Virus & threat protection settings.
• Under Controlled folder access, turn it on or off.
• Once done, try accessing the apps and see if you can now access them.
