  1. Excel file on compacted/compressed NTFS drive not opening

I very recently compressed my drives recently to save space, but the first time I tried to open an Excel file, in one of my drives, instead of opening normally it just gave me a save option!!! and it could only save the file as *.xlsm, which I could not open either.I tried unchecking the Excel file’s compressed checked box under properties/advanced. This did not solve the problem. I tried unchecking the compressed check box in properties/advanced in the folder where the Excel file resides. This did not solve the problem.I am currently letting Windows uncompact the whole drive.I’m really conce

  2. File Compression versus Compact OS in Win 10?

    Hi,

    briefly:

    - CompatOS uses another compression algorithm 4K XPRESS Huffman instead LZNT1 (NTFS compression), so compression is better,

    - files compressed by CompactOS are not shown in blue,

    - compression may make reading and writing files slower due to it loads CPU more strongly.

Exact numbers of CPU load are not published, results of file compacting one may find in

  3. how do I compress my hard drive from the command prompt in windows 10?

    Hi,

You can compress your hard drive in command prompt using command compact in Windows 10. Windows built-in commandcompact allows one to compress or un-compress files on a NTFS file system.
With this command, we can set compression attributes on a directory also so the new files added to the directory will be compressed automatically. We would suggest that you check this

    article
in TechNet forum to know how to compress hard drive using command compact.

    Regards.

  4. Excel file on compacted/compressed NTFS drive not opening

Files in C: drive automatically compressing?

    Hi Marvin,

You can set the compression state of folders and compress or decompress files by using My Computer or a command-line program called Compact. We recommend following these steps to set a folder in a decompression state:

    • Start Windows Explorer . In the left pane, select the folder you want to compress or decompress.

    • On the File menu, click Properties to display the
      Properties dialog box.

    • On the General tab, click Advanced .

    • In the Advanced Attributes dialog box, clear the Compress contents to save disk space check box, and then click
      OK .

    • In the Properties dialog box, click OK .

    • To keep existing files or subfolders in the NTFS folders in their current compression state, click
Apply changes to this folder only , and then click OK .

Let us know if you need further help.
