Windows 10: .exe icon won't show up in containing folder, but shows if moved outside of it

I have several .exe utilities whose icons no longer show up, neither in their parent folder, nor in their shortcuts.


However. when the .exe is moved outside of its folder, or if the folder is renamed, the icon shows!?

Making a copy of the folder or .exe, deleting the original and renaming the .exe or folder back to the original name does not help either.


I have tried rebuilding the icon cache by successfully deleting the iconcache* files in


%homepath%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer


but to no avail.


What causes this rather strange behavior and how can it be fixed?

Windows 10 showing device icons instead of thumbnails in folders

There's a possibility that some folder settings may have changed. It could be set to show icons and not thumbnails. To verify that, please follow the steps below:

• Open the File Explorer.
• Click the View tab.
• On the upper-right corner, click Options.
• On the Folder Options, click the View tab.
• Under Files and Folders, uncheck Always show icons, never thumbnails.
• Click Apply, then OK.

Once done, try checking if the folder icons are already showing thumbnails.

Update us with the result.

1TB WD won`t show up on my computer!

I got this problem that my Hard drive is not been seen by my laptop.I have tried many different ways solving it but it didn`t work once.I

have tried to change the letter, to format it, to turn it online but nothing works because i can`t accesse it and it show up as gray.When i open Disk Manager the computer says it is unkown and not initialized and it doesn`t show the capacity as well.When
i try to initialize it, it shows to different settings.First MBR and GPT but i have tried both of them and it shows that the REQUEST WAS FAILED DUE TO A FATAL DEVICE HARDWARE ERROR.I have also watched several YT videos but it didn`t help.I have also thought
about the cable broken but as it only 3 months new is i wouldn`t really consider it as possible.Never has it fallen or anything.It worked yesterday evening but as for today it won`t show up.

Please Help

Folders in my N8 showing in .exe file format , when using file manager on the phone or ovi suite mode , but folders are good in mass storage mode , when transfering data...the phone doesnt show pics in gallery or videos .:S music is ok :S
