    exfat format external drive with all folders modified dates not updating in windows 11


    The external drive is exfat format and plugged into a MS Window 11 computer. Whenever, the content changes in the exfat format external drive or folders, the modified dates are not updating in MS window. Only NTFS format external drive will not have this problem. Why is this so? How to solve this?

    Formating to exFAT

    Hi Taylor,

    If you want to format an external hard drive or USB flash drive in exFAT, you can follow these steps:



    • Press and hold Windows key + x on your keyboard. This open the context menu.
    • Select Command Prompt (Admin).
    • Type format g: /FS:exFAT and then Enter to begin formatting the G drive as exFAT

    when you format an external "exfat" SSD drive to "NTFS" or vise versa doesn't all the data/files & folders get deleted?

    formatting an external drive in ExFat

    I have purchased a "GDrive" 1 TB drive. It is not recognized by Wondows 10. In the past I have solved this by formatting this drive at the outset as an ExFat Drive. I cannot remember how to do this, but believe it is accessed through Disk Management somehow.
    There is nothing on this drive currently. It is brand new and I am hoping to copy the information from another ExFat drive to it as a back up. HELP!?
