Windows 10: Experiencing random freezing on Windows 10

Hello fellow Redditors,

I purchased an Acer Swift 3 laptop (SF314-55G) running Windows 10 Home SL (current Version 10.0.18363 Build 18363) a couple of months ago. The device was performing as expected. But suddenly for the last few days I have been experiencing random freezing on Windows 10. Problems:

1. The screen gets completely frozen. Cursor does not move.
2. There is no response on touchpad and keyboard input. However, the keyboard backlight turns on upon pressing.
3. The power on/off button does not work normally. Pressing and holding it for 10 seconds turns the device off.

It happened while I was using the laptop for mild word processing, while I was simply browsing the web, while the laptop was on sleep mode. It even happened when I was restarting the device in which case the dots stop rotating and cursor locks in a position. The only way out from this state for me is a forced shut down.

I use the device primarily for simple web browsing, word processing and media consumption. So, there are very limited number of apps installed. Windows 10 along with all drivers is up-to-date. The issue is completely new. It has started happening weeks after the November 2019 update. I scanned the device with Malwarebytes which found no harmful application/virus/malware or anything.

Can anyone please help me with this problem? Any positive input will be appreciated, guys.

P.S. I can share the system information, list of installed programs, event log and reliability monitor reports if needed.

Random Crash/Freeze on Build 10130


Hello everyone.

I have been running the Windows 10 preview for the last few months and other than a driver issue here or there, did not experience any real problems. However, with the last update to build 10130, I have been experiencing a random crash/freeze that manifests itself in one of two ways:

1. If I step away from the computer and come back before the monitor is set to go to sleep, I will come back to a frozen cursor, unable to do anything.
2. If I step away from the computer and come back after the monitor has gone to sleep, I will come back to a black screen, unable to do anything.

In both cases, I have to hold the power button in to shut down the computer for a restart.

Any direction or help would be greatly appreciated.

• Sign in using an administrator account in your Windows 10 computer.
• Disable or uninstall any anti-virus that you've installed to prevent it from interfering with the upgrade to Windows 10.
• Reinstall Windows 10.

Random freezes or shut downs

Hrrmmmm... but wouldnt formatting and reinstalling windows fix the issue since the virus/trojan/spyware isnt on the system any longer?
