Windows 10: Explorer and related windows apps suddenly become slow when I connect a external drive.

So I have an external drive in which I have a lot of essential data. Although suddenly after I turned on my PC While the drive was connected, Windows started acting really slow, I tried removing the things connected with USB. After I disconnected the external drive everything became normal, I connected it again. Everything became slow again Explorer not responding and task manager too, and I couldn't open anything They were REALLY slow to open even if they were on my other main SSD. Although all this happened after I accidentally turned off my PC's power while it was sleep.Any help with

Windows Explorer crashes whenever I open my external HDD or thumb drive in explorer..

So, I open up My Computer, open my F Drive and boom: "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and must close". It is really annoying! I am fine everywhere else in explorer, but something just screws up when I try the external HDD (USB) or my thumb drive.

Can anyone help?

 

External drives using true Sata connection?

While I did not choose the route of using an external case+usb drive, I appreciate the responses as I now understand what to look for if I need a cheaper alternative to making use of an old internal drive.

Related to this query was my decision between external drives and a NAS box.

We suggest that you try the troubleshooting steps below:

• Open your External Hard Drive file in File Explorer.
• Type the name of the file you want to search on the search box and click Enter.

The file will show up in Search Results and you will be able to move it to the correct folder.
