Windows 10: Explorer crashing in Windows 10 Build 2004

I have to new computers that I have recently installed that are both getting the following error when logging into Windows but not every time.


Event ID 1000
Faulting application name: explorer.exe version 10.0.19041.423
faulting module name: explorer.exe version 10.0.19041.423
Exception Code 0xc0000005


I am able to launch the Task Manager and start the explorer.exe application and then all is well. I have run sfc /scannow which it has found and fixed some corruption. I am not sure how to proceed from here.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Network drive (Win 7) crashes files explorer (Win 10)

Hello,

Im trying to solve this problem for a while now.

Mapped network drive (Windows 7) cause file explorer to crash. The strange thing is that the problem only appears after cold start and can be solved by just restarting the computer. Also on other computers with different Windows build file explorer doesn't
crash

Things I already did:

• Enabled SMB v1
• Added ProviderFlags DWord with value of 1 in windows registry.
• Reinstalled Windows

Relevant information:

Windows version 2004 (OS Build 19041.450) - File explorer crashes

Windows version 1909 (OS Build 18363.1016) - everything works fine

 

Windows explorer crashing

Hi,

I am having the same problem as the OP in this thread.
Windows Explorer crashes whenever I open my external HDD or thumb drive in explorer..

I have tried the fixes listed in the above thread and I am getting the same error message as 'ktadie' (post 16). I think this is because I am running Windows 7 Professional. Windows explorer crashes when I open my 'Films' folder on my brand new 2tb external HDD. I have about 300 .avi files in this folder and some of the .avi files are several years old.

In short I believe I need the same fix given by 'Wile E' (post 7) but updated for Windows 7 Professional.
