Restarting explorer.exe or rebooting fixes the issue temporarily.Brand new PC from Dell - it replaced a unit that was having the same issue.. so now I think it might be software related. 2. Windows 10 Start Menu File Explorer button error "Windows cannot access the specified device ..."

    Hi All,

I have a strange error with windows start menu today! Please check the attached two images:

    Notes (before reproducing steps):

    • My laptop is up without restart for 11 days till now, I am a software engineer.
    • I have ended the explorer processes and relaunched it from the task manager.
    • File Explorer button in the start menu opens "This PC".
    • I can open the Explorer normally by
      • Menu Button + E
      • File Explorer pinned to the taskbar

    • I can't open the File Explorer by Start Menu > File Explorer Button

    • I don't want to restart, I have a lot of work on other desktops, restart solves this problem. Obviously, it is a bug.

    Steps to reproduce the error:

    • open the start menu
    • click on file explorer button
      • an error message appears with "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item".

    Step 1:

Explorer Errors - Start Menu Unclickable until restart explorer.exe or reboot fad2ccec-0d7c-4272-9c89-08b9eb0f0083?upload=true.png

    Step 2 & result:

Explorer Errors - Start Menu Unclickable until restart explorer.exe or reboot 06f0a347-02ec-4462-acd2-2d5f32d5199d?upload=true.png

Steps were taken trying to resolve the issue:

    • I tried to restart the explorer process from task manager, but with no success.
    • I tried to replace the shortcut the file explorer button points at, but still with no hope.
    • I checked the permissions of the "explorer.exe" process in "Windows" folder, and I have the correct permissions. I even tried to double click the file "explorer.exe" and it normally opened the explorer without a problem!

I guess it is a problem with the File Explorer button itself in the start menu (A GUI problem), maybe a corrupted registry key!

    Software and Hardware Specs:

    Windows 10 Pro x64

    Version 1709

    OS Build 16299.309

    Dell Inspiron 7559

    Quad Cores i5 2.3 GHz

    8 GB Ram

    Thank you very much.

    windows explorer keeps rebooting

I took my comp out of the case yesterday because I wanted to get started on painting/modding the chassis.. on first boot I had this issue but after I restarted my comp it went away. Today I go to turn it on and when it gets in windows it just constantly says windows explorer stopped responding and just keeps rebooting windows explorer non stop.

I tried starting windows in safe mod but than it still keeps rebooting and even faster since the system is faster in safe mode.. well when I force shutdown last message that pops up before it turns off is like this.

"0000-00000- something something - cannot read memory" something similar to that.

the mobo is on top of the mobo box I plugged everything back in perfectly but ofc as usual my comp gives me problems.. or just vista lol I dont think my computer likes vista for its always given me problems but this is the software I want to use and wil not go back to xp since it has no dx10.

my mobo has a little bend in it from my zalman 9500 cpu cooler backplate, but I would think that if the memory/ram does not have perfect contact than he comp would not work...

Anyone have suggestions they will be appreciated, I have a headache now lol.

  4. Explorer Errors - Start Menu Unclickable until restart explorer.exe or reboot

    Internet Explorer won't start

Since it's not allowing you to open the settings of the Internet Explorer itself, we suggest that you type inetcpl.cpl on
the search box to open the Internet Properties and follow the steps provided on the link that we have on our previous post.

Note: In doing this you can now skip step 1 under Reset Internet Explorer settings.

If the issue persists, we recommend that you uninstall and reinstall the Internet Explorer.
To do this, follow the steps below:

To uninstall the Internet Explorer, follow the steps below:

    • Click the Start button, type
Programs and Features in the search box, and then select
      View installed updates.

    • Under Uninstall an update, scroll down to the
      Microsoft Windows section.

    • Right-click Internet Explorer 11, click Uninstall and then click
      Yes.

    • Click one of the following:
    • Restart now (to finish the process of uninstalling Internet Explorer 11 and restore the previous version of Internet Explorer)

    • Restart later

To download and reinstall Internet Explorer, follow the steps below:

    • Check the System Type that you need to install by pressing
      Windows key + Pause key.
    • Check the System type under System (Ex: 64-bit Operating system, x64-based processor).

    • Download Internet Explorer 11 (Offline Installer) on this
      link.

    • Choose your preferred language and Service Pack (Ex: Windows 7 SP1 64-bit).

    • Follow the on-screen prompt.

    • Once done, check if the issues persists.

Note: The installer that you can download on this link also applies in Windows 10.

We'll wait for your update with the result.
