Windows 10: explorer.exe 10.0.22621.2050 crashing with error 0xc0000005 @ offset 0x000000000007fcf9

Hi After last Windows Update to Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Insider Preview 10.0.22631.2050 KB5028256, I can no longer start FileExplorer.The Window opens with the folder list visible on the left and focus on the Home section, but it has a blank details screen. Then it crashes after about 3 seconds. I am able to open file explorer via start:search and then enter say "c:\windows". This windows stays open until I click on the home section on the top of the left panel. I am guessing it is related to a conflict with some extension e.g. 7-zip or Notepad++ however unsure how to triage.

Random apps and games crashes with error 0xc0000005 and blue screens

Since the end of July 2019 my apps and games (including windows services) have been crashing randomly, the windows event log lists these crashes with error 0xc0000005, here's an example for the game Verdun (other apps and games crash with the same error):

I have also been having random blue screens with the errors PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA and CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED.

I have used windows Driver Verifier and I managed to get some blue screens that point to the clipsp.sys driver but I don't think the content of the blue screen contains everything meaningful.

The crashes do not seem to happen in Safe Mode.

In the past months I have tried almost everything:

• Clean boot
• Updated windows to latest version
• Used all tools to check integrity or corruption like sfc, chkdsk, ecc.
• Clean reinstalled windows multiple times
• Replaced RAM modules
• Replaced motherboard

The crashes still happen. Since I have no idea what is causing these crashes my next step will be replacing the CPU...

there are no other crashes immediately before or immediately following this crash in the event viewer

 

Explorer crashed, error code 0xc0000005

I am having this exact same issue. My PC has a few logins, however only the one I regularly use has this issue.

I also tried the replacement update KB3172988 which does the same thing.

I can pretty much run anything I want from Task Manager EXCEPT Explorer.

There really aren't any clues in the event log. When running Explorer, only says Explorer crashed, error code 0xc0000005, faulting module ntdll.dll.

Tried resetting display scaling, that didn't work.

Uninstall the KB and it is OK again.
