  1. explorer.exe crashes seconds after logging into any user account

I was dual booting between two Windows 10 installs on separate ssd's, one was my main which I used the most, the other because I could only install and play a game from a clean Windows 10 install for some reason. This worked well for a long time until a few days ago. I booted into the main ssd Windows 10 to the user login screen and as soon as my account was loading, desktop with icons showed but nothing on the taskbar then explorer.exe crashed to a blank screen. This occurs within just seconds giving me no time to do anything else but control-alt-del log and try again. Explorer.exe just keeps crashing within seconds on any user account I try to log into. Have researched and tried every possible solution found in the forums and nothing has worked. From scandisk to chkdsk to dism to booting from recovery and attempting repairs all say no errors but the problem persists. Tried to find and look at the .dmp files but the only one was a mini dump from months ago that showed nothing. I can boot to the other Windows 10 install just fine and access files on the drive where explorer.exe is crashing but I cannot login to any user account on the main without explorer.exe crashing to try things like reinstalling graphics drivers or merge the registry script to force a mini dump to try and pinpoint the error. Sorry so long. At this point I am completely frustrated. Has anyone had an issue like this or have any suggestions?

    :)

  2. Windows 10 explorer crashes and restarts every 60 seconds

    Hi Keith,

    Thank you for responding.

    Do let us know:

    • Have you enabled Built-in administrator account?
    • Have you currently logged-in as an administrator using Microsoft account?
    • Have you created any other user account on your computer?

If you have enabled Built-in administrator account, I suggest you to disable that and check if it helps.

    Steps to: Disable Built-in administrator.

      • Press Windows + X key together on your desktop screen.
      • Click on Command Prompt (admin) to open
        Command Prompt
        .
      • Type the following command and hit Enter:
      • net user administrator /active: no (Check for the spaces)

Restart the computer, try to log-in with administrator account and check if it helps.

  3. Explorer crash in Windows 10

    Hi Umogi,

    Thank you for the update.

I would once suggest you to check the same issue with the new user account.

Try these steps to create a new user account and check if it fixes the issue. Refer to the steps below to create a new User Account:

    • Go to Settings.
    • Choose Accounts and then select Other User Accounts towards the left.
    • Select Add an Account.
    • Enter a user name and hit Next.
    • Click on Finish.
    • Sign out from the current Account and Log into the new account.
    • Check if issue persists.
    Hope this information is helpful.

  4. explorer.exe crashes seconds after logging into any user account

    Unknown second user account

I took the free upgrade to Windows 10 about a week ago. An unknown second user has started appearing on the password log-in screen. It has the name 'smmosbvjntf'. It is easily removed from the user account box but usually reappears on the log-in screen within 24 hours.

I also get a pop up from Tweakbit which wants me to use it to clean up my computer. I'm ignoring that.

I subscribe to Eset and have scanned my laptop several timesusing the Eset scan and have come out with a completely clean bill of health.

Any suggestions of how to rid myself completely of this unknown second account user?
