Windows 10: Explorer.exe crashes when attempting to sort picture directory

Hello, I recently reset my HP Laptop 2000 Series with 8GB with a fresh install of Windows 10 Home 20H2. I chose the option to download Windows from the cloud to try to avoid any local problems. I have copied all of my files back onto the laptop but I am experiencing crashes of explorer.exe in module mfmp4srcsnk.dll.


I am able to open the file explorer window but if I attempt to sort the file listing by date for example it crashes and restarts itself including the tray. Other windows don't seem to be affected. The folder in question is the my pictures folder and it has a lot of pictures in it. I have tried shutting off the extended desktop, updating the Intel device driver and lowering the resolution with no improvement. The problem is visible in event viewer and windows error reporting. I can consistently replicate this problem. I have tried other folders such as windows but I only experience the problem on the my pictures folder.


I would appreciate any advice on how to go about resolving this I have searched for a few hours with no success

File Explorer - if I go to a directory of pictures and sort that directory in any way " let say by size" then Windows photo viewer only goes alphabetical

File Explorer - if I go to a directory of pictures and sort that directory in any way " let say by size" then Windows photo viewer only goes alphabetical. And now after the last update If I open a file in the middle of the alphabet and do a right arrow
it to move to the next alphabetical file it starts are the first file in the folder. This just started also.

Any suggestions?

 

Correct Directory Location For Pictures Folder

"Now Documents, Videos etc say file location is This PC. But Pictures file location is C:\Users\PeteyBoPetey\Pictures."

If we understand you correctly, the issue is that Pictures doesn't appear in the left panel under This PC. The correct location IS C:\Users\PeteyBoPetey\Pictures. This is only an issue of using Step 8 in the tutorial to add it back to the list. See if this screenshot is what you want to achieve- put Pictures folder back in list on L.

If Date Modified doesn't show on the options when you choose Sort by, we suggest that you perform this steps:

• In File Explorer, select the folder you want to have changes with.
• Right-click and select Sort by.
• Select More, then check if the Date modified option has a check mark.
• Click OK, then try to perform again the steps provided by Acelyn Alc.
