Explorer.exe crashes when plugging external ssd

    Hello
I have a Samsung T3 that worked fine on this pc.
I use it for school, I've used it on a few systems.

I've googled a lot for this but can't find a proper answer, but feel free to relist the answers since it might help me if I try it again.

But recently when I plug it in windows explorer becomes unresponsive and I can't get it to restart even with cmd. When I disconnect the drive windows works again.

This does not happen on my laptop which also runs W10.

I've recently reinstalled (clean) my OS since the wifi drivers ****ed my OS (can't even get my wifi to work on W10 but w/e I'll just use LAN).

    It's Windows 10 Pro 64 bit btw.

(thanks mr Admin for saying it should be here, didn't know that)

    :)

  2. Explorer.exe crashing due to windows.storage.dll

    Hi,

This issue started after last year (2017) windows 10 update (Win 10 Pro).

After spend days online I have tried every possible options on from the net. No luck.

Last week I have removed current SSD Drive (PNYCS1311 - SanDisk Ultra II 480GB) and

installed brand new Samsung 850 EVO (256GB). The problem is gone.

    The interesting part is,

I put old SSD (PNY) in external closure and whenever I plug that into USB and browse folders, open files the issue happens.

Windows crashes and I am getting same error in Event Viewer:

Faulting application name: explorer.exe, version: 10.0.16299.125, time stamp: 0xfeba44fb

Faulting module name: windows.storage.dll, version: 10.0.16299.125, time stamp: 0xa36bf5f0

When I unplug the device, windows working properly no crashes.

So the issue is reproducible. Either the size of SSD ( >480 GB) cause the issue, or firmware of SSD.

    Thanks,

    Karay

Once I plug my external DD (2To) to my computer, explorer.exe goes crazy

    Hello,

    Issue:

Explorer.exe take 30% of processor after I open a new windows tab with (Windows + E) when my external DD (2To) is plugged. If I open an another tab, explorer.exe take 60% and goes to 100% if more tabs are opened. When I unplug it, and restart Explorer.exe,
    no issue.

I plug an old external DD (360Gb) and no issue. I also plug the external DD (2To) to other computer (Windows 10 64 build 1511), no issue.

I did a sfc /scannow, and nothing changed

    My specs:

    - Asus Pro Gaming (Bios 1904)

    - I5 6600K @4.3Ghz

    - GeForce GTX 970 (Last drivers)

    - FuryX 16 GO DDR4 2666Mhz

    - Samsung 850 EVO 500Gb

    - Windows 10 64 bits, anniversary update, build 1607

    - Only one session, mine, local admin

    What can I do ?
