  1. Explorer.exe File Association Error After OneDrive Self-Updates

Hi all,I've long been using OneDrive to sync files from Teams to File Explorer on my Surface Pro 2 with Windows 8.1.1 & OneDrive for Business and now Surface Pro 7+ with Windows 11 & Integrated OneDrive. Since upgrading to Windows 11, I've been noticing that each time OneDrive updates itself, I get a Windows Firewall Control notification about the following files in a new directory due to the new OneDrive version # directory, no problem with that, I simply allow the new ones through and eventually get to deleting the now obsolete old firewall rules:New OneDrive Firewall Rules AFt

Onedrive constantly disappears on File Explorer and OneDrive show a error message sometime

After the update KB5016616 and kb5012170 on Windows 10 21H2 Onedrive constantly disappears on File Explorer and OneDrive show a error message sometime. This bug appear on several computer. I tried a OneDrive reset C:\Program Files\Microsoft OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset. It works fine for one day and today the Onedrive is gone from File Explorer again.

    Error message :

Explorer.exe "This file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action. Please install an app or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Apps settings page."

WIndows 10 - Windows Explorer - This File Does Not have a Program Associated With It - OneDrive

I fixed this by downloading and installing OneDrive for Windows 8 on my Windows 10 computer. Before that, I logged into the OneDrive website and removed the Windows 10 PC's that I saw listed because the wording up there said that if you have Windows 8.1,
you can't fetch files. I never wanted to FETCH files, I just wanted them to Sync.

Microsoft should update the OneDrive messages to direct what to do on Windows 10. Also, there are a lot of web posts saying silly things like "OneDrive is built into Windows 10, so Microsoft retired the app". I got this when I bing'd "OneDrive Windows 10".
If I could not install OneDrive for Windows 8 on my Windows 10 system, I'd be hosed.

Perhaps all the "install" actually did is recreate a file association that had a problem. I do know that I didn't have "OneDrive" in my File Explorer left pane as a "peer" of "This PC" but after the install, I do. Please don't retire the app; this is at
least one Windows 10 user who needed it!

BTW, I did run SFC as suggested above and it found no errors.

  4. Explorer.exe File Association Error After OneDrive Self-Updates

" This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action." Error in Windows 10.

    Hi MichielO,

What changes were made in the system using Tuneup Utilities?

    Try:

Open Folder Options (via control panel), set file explorer open to "This PC".

If that doesn't help, one of the steps listed in the article might help.
