Windows 10: Explorer.exe freezes (Hangs) on rename

I'm getting this periodically when renaming a folder, explorer.exe will hang for a while when attempting to rename. Any ideas guys?*Rolleyes

File Explorer crashes when creating new folders

I've had consistent Windows Explorer freeze events when attempting to create new folders on a shared drive.

I've tried all of Ashish Sondhi's 3 Methods bit.ly/2neQQAs none of which resolved Explorer freezing.

I've also seen many suggestions to apply KB solutions. When I read the KB support details nothing indicates any specific reference to this freezing problem. Is it recommended I (we) apply KB anyway just to see what happens? This is like playing with matches.

 

Windows Explorer error "A problem caused this program to stop interacting with Windows."

Encountered this error multiple times when creating new folders or renaming folders. Not sure if this could be hard drive related?

rename freeze
and found this where what I found seemed to fix it

See if it works for you.

 

I Saw that, but thanks for looking. It seems to have fixed itself. If it comes back ill try removing the winrar shell extension.

 

You can also try disabling all shell context menu entries to see if that has any effect.

Similarly, try a clean boot - looking for conflicting 3rd party programs.

And you'll be aware that 1607 as initially released was known for freezing problems - hopefully fixed in the major updates since release.
