  1. Explorer.exe not starting at boot after recent installation

I recently got my first SSD (woo!) so I had to unfortunately go through the Windows reinstallation process. All was good, SSD gave me awesome boot times as well, until a few restarts later. Now whenever I start my PC the boot takes a bit more time at the login process, and then once logged in the screen is black with only the cursor and I have to run explorer.exe manually...

I checked the "userinit" registry key (don't remember the exact path, posting on mobile) and it contained only "explorer.exe" as it should. I've tried SFC /scannow and dism /restorehealth but the problem persists..

    :)

    Explorer won't start in boot-up

    Hi,

I've recently had a problem that Windows 10 won't automatically run "explorer.exe" after installing The Sims 4. I didn't have this problem ever, even with TS4 installed on other PCs. I uninstalled The Sims 4, but it STILL doesn't work. I've tried to create
a .BAT file to run explorer, putting a shortcut to explorer.exe in the start-up folder (the actual one, not the start menu's) and STILL it doesn't work. The ironic thing is, when I tried to create a .BAT file to start Explorer, tested it, worked. I put it
to start-up with boot-up, but the file didn't even work! Actually, it terminated it! The only thing letting me to boot is a command prompt, indicating"C:\Windows\System32", and I have to manually type "explorer" to start Windows up. This is my mom's computer,
so please help, else my mom's gonna KILL me!

    Cheers,

    ~James

  3. explorer.exe will not run at start up

This has been going on for months, and I have tried every solution I've seen.

Malwarebytes & Windows Defender have found no security threats. I've done the sfc/scannow thing. I've done a clean boot. I've started in safe mode. My computer is entirely up to date and I've recently run CCleaner. Also recently defrag my hard drive if that's
relevant (AFTER the problem started occurring). In my registry, the shell value thing is explorer.exe

explorer.exe will NOT start automatically after I login no matter what.

If there is an easy solution, I've found it and tried it to no avail. I tried doing a system restore shortly after the problem started and my computer couldn't restore. I don't remember the reason or error code, and frankly, I don't WANT to do a system restore.
    Please help.

I am editing this post to update that I accidentally broke explorer.exe by renaming the file in my attempts to fix it. I ran sfc/scannow and it repaired explorer, but the SAME problem from before still persists.

  5. You should have those 3 for a proper boot, you can run CMD as admin and copy/paste it, just to be sure:
