Windows 10: Explorer.exe popup

    Visual C++ runtime library error

    After upgrade from windows 7 pro to windows 7 every time i logon (adminstrator) i get a Visual C++ runtime library error with the popup message unuseable stop c:\windows\explorer.exe

    Windows 10 Desktop Completely Vanishes

    I Have gotten around to reinstalling win10. And after some screwing about I have confirmed that Explorer.exe is actually crashing. opening it from command prompt fixes it for a moment but then it crashes again without any error or popup to explain why.

    Explorer.exe popup

    Download and run ProcessExplorer. It does not need to be installed.

    Once the error message is on the screen, start ProcessExplorer and drag the target icon and drop it on the error message window. It will show the process that generated that window highlighted in blue in the PE window.


    Then use msconfig Startup (or Task Manager Startup tab) and Services tabs to find and disable that process.

    Not much help there.

    Try using Clean Boot to identify the cause.

    Have you tried running SFC /Scannow from your Command Prompt (Admin) to see if you have errors??

    I ran SCF /Scannow. It found no integrity violations.

    I dragged the popup to the recycle gin and it went away for now.

    Force closed explorer.exe and turned off my PC.
