  1. Explorer.exe random crashing in Windows 10

I have Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. I'm experiencing a crash that seems to happen completely randomly. When it does occur, most of the icons in my System Tray vanish and then some of them re-appear (some do not, like the Nvidia Control Panel). Checking Event Viewer when this happens shows something like this:

Faulting application name: Explorer.EXE, version: 10.0.17134.165, time stamp: 0x4031a9f8
Faulting module name: Explorer.EXE, version: 10.0.17134.165, time stamp: 0x4031a9f8
    Exception code: 0xc0000409
    Fault offset: 0x00000000000b9eaa
    Faulting process id: 0x1498
    Faulting application start time: 0x01d449fd6344aac1
    Faulting application path: C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE
    Faulting module path: C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE
    Report Id: ce855203-f5ac-43d2-81d0-ac4c79ee1ddc
    Faulting package full name:
    Faulting package-relative application ID:

This error doesn't happen every day. It seems to be completely random. I could be in a game or other program or just simply sitting in Windows with nothing going on. After it happens, the effects are always the same and it seems to only affect the programs in my System Tray/Notification area. When I bring up the Notification settings screen after this happens, the ones that have vanished and not come back have blank icons with their switches still set to 'On' and using the switch does not bring the program back to the Notification area. Only a reboot fixes everything.

The crash isn't the worst thing in the world, but it is irritating. Advice appreciated.

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

    Windows Explorer Replacement?

    j0 all.

The thing is, I have a very annoying problem with the Windows Explorer: It crashes. Quite often and quite random. I have NO idea what the problem is, and I've searched the computer for viruses, trojans and everything, but there is nothing I can find.

So, I decided to drop it and use something else. Any suggestions? It must be easy to use, of course. *Stick Out Tongue Explorer.exe random crashing in Windows 10 :p

    Peace

    Windows explorer crashing

    Hi,

I am having the same problem as the OP in this thread.
Windows Explorer crashes whenever I open my external HDD or thumb drive in explorer..

I have tried the fixes listed in the above thread and I am getting the same error message as 'ktadie' (post 16). I think this is because I am running Windows 7 Professional. Windows explorer crashes when I open my 'Films' folder on my brand new 2tb external HDD. I have about 300 .avi files in this folder and some of the .avi files are several years old.

In short I believe I need the same fix given by 'Wile E' (post 7) but updated for Windows 7 Professional.

    Thanks in advance.
