  1. Explorer.EXE "Unspecified error" in "User's Files

    Hi all,

Just installed Win 10 pro on a new SSD, so a clean install. Started installing all my programs etc. Everything seems to be running well, except on thing that is annoying...

I have placed a few icons on the desktop via right clicking on the desktop, choosing personalize, then themes, then desktop icon settings. I have placed, computer, user's files and control panel along with the already selected recycle bin.

If I open the user's files icon placed via this method and I right click in the window and choose "customize this folder" I get an error box "Explorer.EXE "Unspecified error."

On a similar note, if I manually create a shortcut from C:\Users onto the desktop I am able to choose customize this folder without any error.

I was doing a little digging online and some people said this could be related to CCleaner?

Just wondering if anyone else has this issue and or knows how to fix it? I really dont like errors like this, so may just reinstall everything again, but don't want to if there is a possible fix.

    Thank you in advance.

    :)

As I said in my first post you can either try to update it's software to see if it cures it.

If it doesn't then your phone is faulty and you will need to get it repaired.

I'm having this error on a new Windows installation with CCleaner. I will try to reproduce this error in a completely untouched virtual machine (aka without CCleaner) and will post the results!

C:\users is not r user folder. r user folder (it contains all of r documents, pictures, music etc.) is located at C:\users\r username here

In fact, manually browsing to r user's folder and trying to customize it will result in an error, not just opening it from the desktop.

The error's happening on the virtual machine, too, so it is definitely a problem with Windows.

Glad I am not the only one and thank you for testing it out in a VM, please let us know, as I am sure others have this error as well.

I believe that the error happens because every folder has a properties dialog box except for the user folder, and the customize button opens the properties dialog box in every other folder.

  10. Yes, sorry, I assumed people would undrstand I was then creating a shortcut via C:\users\your username here onto the desktop.

I do not get the error if I try it this way, only if I select it via desktop icon settings

    ahhhh yes, good point!

Does r user folder have a properties context menu in the right click menu?

  12. When selecting the User's folder placed via "desktop icon settings," it does not... does yours? However This PC and Recycle Bin do, control panel does not, which I don't think ever did anyway.

Run those 2 commands via CMD as admin and restart, see if it helps.

    reg add "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer" /v "DesktopProcess" /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

    reg add "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced" /v "SeparateProcess" /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

My icon does not have the customize folder option.

  15. Hello TairikuOkami, where does that info come from, I would like to research more, before I go adding registry entries... CCleaner could have very well deleted those 2, but would like to look into where this information came from, tyvm
