Windows 10: Explorer hangs when in OneNote 2016 user selects View->New Docked Window

Currently, OneNote 2016 and Explorer both hang immediately after one selects View tab, then under the Window group, select "New Docked Window".

OneNote 2016 becomes unresponsive and, even after killing the app, the Taskbar is also unresponsive for about a minute, as is any other window on the desktop.

There does not appear to be any unusual CPU, disk or network activity when this happens.


This is Windows 10 build 17134.228, running on an HP ZBook Studio G4, with two additional monitors hooked up via a Targus docking station, using HDMI connector.

Note that this happens no matter which monitor OneNote window is currently displayed on.

It does not happen if there are no additional screens connected via the docking station. That is, a docked window is created as expected.

OneNote 2016 opening on startup

Hi,

In order to turn off or disable OneNote 2016 at startup, we suggest that you follow the steps below:

• Right-click on the Taskbar, and select Task Manager.
• On the bottom right of the Task Manager window, click the drop-down arrow to open
  More details.
• Click the Startup tab. This tab shows the programs that are enabled on Startup.
• Right-click OneNote 2016, and click Disable.
• Click File, then Exit.
• You may then restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

• Click List.
