  1. Explorer not closing after clicking red 'X'.

This is on W11, fully patched. It started a couple of weeks ago and I'm starting to get really fed up with it. Clicking the 'X' at the top right of the window and remaining hovering over the Red area the window doesn't close. It always used to do this.If I move the mouse away from the red area within the window or outside it the window then closes. I find this very disconcerting. How to revert this back to 'normal' behaviour?I've looked at Focus, Explorer options and suggestions online but cannot find this described elsewhere.I have also found that the same thing happens with the Minim

Red X button will not close file explore window in windows 7 have to right click and close.

One of our windows 7 64 bit pc's will not let you click on the red X to close it. You can close it by right clicking on the folder in the taskbar and clicking on close. After we restart the PC it goes away for awhile but then comes back. The PC is
part of a domain and everything else is working fine. Any help would be appreciated.

  3. Red X on the Network icon

There is a red x on the Network icon. My internet is connected but the red x is always there and annoying.

I was able to resolve this by following the steps below

    Suggestions:

    Method 1:

Right Click on Computer -> Manage

Under the System Tools section, double click on Local Users and Groups

Click Groups -> Right Click on Administrators -> Add to group -> Add -> Advanced -> Find now -> Double Click on Local Service -> Click Ok

Close all the windows, reboot the computer and check the status

    Method 2:

Click Start -> Type CMD -> Right click on CMD -> Run as administrator
Type net localgroup Administrators /add Local Service and press Enter
Click OK when it says The Command Completed Successfully
Reboot the computer and check the status

    Red x's in File Explorer

    Hello JonathanLimebrook,

Thank you for writing us here in Microsoft Community.

Based on the information you provided. I just want to ask a few questions as to narrow down the problem. It is important to answer this to provide more detailed troubleshooting steps.

    1. May I know if you already done copying all your files in the OneDrive?

    2. Can you post a screenshot about your issue?

    3. May I know what troubleshooting steps you have done with your issue? Have you deleted the files that are done transferring?

Here are some possible troubleshooting steps that may help resolve your solution:

    1. Right-click on the folder with the red x and select "Properties."

    2. Click on the "General" tab and then click on the "Advanced" button.

    3. Uncheck the box that says "Allow files in this folder to have contents indexed in addition to file properties."

    4. Click "OK" to close the Advanced Attributes window.

    5. Click "Apply" and then "OK" to close the Properties window.

This should remove the red x from the folder and allow it to be backed up to OneDrive. If the issue persists, you can try resetting OneDrive by following these steps:

    1. Right-click on the OneDrive icon in the system tray and select "Settings."

    2. Click on the "Account" tab and then click on "Unlink this PC."

    3. Follow the prompts to unlink your PC from OneDrive.

    4. Restart your PC.

    5. Sign in to OneDrive again and set up your sync preferences.

Also try this link: Reset OneDrive - Microsoft Support

Let me know if the issue persists, and we can have other options.

I hope you find this information helpful.
