Windows 10: Explorer search box double letters and windows update errors

My explorer search box and wifi password search boxes are doubling the letters I type into them. I type R and it shows RR. Therefore, can't join a new wifi or search for anything! I researched and this is a known error that update 22H2 is supposed to fix. Tried to update and am getting "can't update" with error 0x80888002. I have tried multiple fixes for this, including using update troubleshooter which says it fixes something, but restarting computer and trying again to download doesn't work. Also tried some other things, but nothing works. Super frustrated as I REALLY need to sign

Bug in File Explorer's search box

I just reinstalled Windows 10 from scratch, wiping the SSD because it was crashing with BSODs and other errors; I was in the 20h2 build, now I'm in the stable 2004 (19041.508).

In the new install, as always, I set the search in the File Explorer to "automatically type into the search box".

I go to a folder that have a lot of files and folders and start typing. The first letter is automatically selected and just as I continue typing, the word gets incomplete, because the first letter is deleted and, consequently, the search returns an incorrect query.

I tried to use the "troubleshoot search and indexing" option, but got the error "Incorrect permissions on Windows Search directories".

None of the troubleshooting steps worked. I even did a new clean install of the OS with a USB stick, wiping the SSD, again.

I don't know what else I can do. It was working fine before, in both builds (20h2 and 2004).

Now check if you are able to find search box.

To turn off windows updates in windows 7 follow these steps:

Click the start button, in the search box type in 'windows updates', click on 'windows update'
in the search results list, in the left side of the windows update window click 'change settings'
then in the option bar select 'Never check for updates'.
