Windows 10: Explorer window top buttons and desktop icons not selectable

After some time each day, the maximize, minimize and X buttons at the top of any Explorer windows that I have open become greyed out. I then have to close any window, whether folder or program, using Alt+F4. I have checked the mouse functions and they all work within a program or browser. Also, intermittently, system tray and desktop icons cannot be clicked on with the mouse, and I cannot even cycle through them with the tab key – I have to open programs by pressing the Winkey and selecting the program from there. The problem resolves temporarily when I restart, but comes back again after an h

Remove Linux Desktop Icons

I am not sure whether this will work (Ubuntu does not have icons like that on the desktop by default), but I suggest opening the trash bin and sweeping the icons into the window showing the trash bin.
