1. Export-Startlayout cmdlet lacks [-As BIN|XML] parameter on my system

    Hi!
I'm trying to export start menu to bin file but Export-StartLayout -Path "C:\Marketing.bin" -As BIN says:
    Code: Export-StartLayout : A parameter cannot be found that matches parameter name 'As'.AT line:1 char:45 + Export-StartLayout -Path "C:\Marketing.BIN" -As BIN + ~~~
When I do Export-StartLayout -? It gives me that syntax is:
    Code: SYNTAX Export-StartLayout [-Path] <String> [-InformationAction {SilentlyContinue | Stop | Continue | Inquire | Ignore | Suspend}] [-InformationVariable <System.STRING>] [-Confirm] [-WhatIf] [<CommonParameters>]
But when I do get-help Export-StartLayout -online it takes me to the page Export-StartLayout msdn page which clearly states the syntax is
    Code: Export-StartLayout [-LiteralPath] <String> [[-As] <AsFileType> ] [-Confirm] [-WhatIf] [ <CommonParameters>]
So I have kinda different version on my PC? Or how do I interpret it? I have win 10 home with all updates installed, but msdn doesn't make difference between home or pro or something in case of this cmdlet.

    :)

Copy pinned start menu apps to another user, Windows 10

Sorry for abandoning this thread, as I do have an update. In Powershell, there's a cmdlet "Export-StartLayout," which allows you to create an XML from your current start menu layout. You can then (apparently) use it to replace an XML file in the folder location:

    C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Shell

After that any *new* user who first logs into the computer would get the new start menu. I did have this work once, but after trying again, it gave new users a blank start menu layout. I kind of wish there was better documentation on this.

I don't have any new Windows 10 computers to roll out at the moment. Next time I do, I will do some experiments with the "Import-StartLayout" cmdlet.

  3. Export-Startlayout possible bug 1607

    Hi

    Windows 10 x64 Education 1607

If I have a redirected start menu via folder redirection. This is with loopback replace set. Then I place some Apps E.G

Word,Excel, Powerpoint and some URL links on the start layout.

Then I start Powershell as as administrator and run Export-Startlayout -path c:\start.xml

    I get this error

Export-StartLayout : Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.

    At line:1 char:1

    + Export-StartLayout -Path C:\start.xml

    + ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

+ CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: Export-Startlayout cmdlet lacks [-As BIN|XML] parameter on my system :)) [Export-StartLayout], COMException

    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException,Microsoft.Windows.Start

    Layout.Commands.ExportStartLayoutCommand

Can someone else please try this.

I've ruled out Anti Virus. It works with a local start menu.
