Extended display setting reverts to duplicate after laptop startup

Hello! I have the following multiple display set-up - laptop + monitor + TV. The monitor is connected to the laptop through USB-C, and the TV is connected through HDMI. The problem is that I need to use them in Extended display mode and I manually set everything and it works. BUT once I shut down my laptop and turn it on again, both the monitor and the TV start in a duplicate mode! I need to unplug them both and plug back in every time to have the correct mode which I previously set up.Any way to fix this? As it's driving me crazy!

    :)

How to stop automatic duplicate/extend displays

Hello all! I'm using my Windows 10 laptop with a secondary external monitor which i want to use as a display, without the laptop's built-in display. The problem is, despite i set to show the image only on the secondary (external) monitor, after each restart or after i close the laptop's lid, it reverts to duplicating the image (or extends it, if select extend inside of duplicate). How can i stop this?? I have to manually reselect to show the image on the 2nd display only. Thanks!

  3. Display setting reverts to "Duplicate" instead of staying at "Second Screen Only" after sleep on Windows 10

Thank you for the reply Ariel.

To answer your first 3 questions:

    • When does the issue start? It has always been this way, as I just started using the laptop with a second monitor recently.
    • Is your laptop runs the latest Windows update? Yes
    • What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far? I tried checking the graphics driver and generally playing around with the display settings.

I tried your suggested steps of using "Extend these displays" first, then check the second monitor as the main display (nice). Then I selected "Show only on 2", which disabled the "Make this main display" for 2, but stayed checked at least. (see image #1)

The bad news is that after sleep or restart, it reverts back to "Extend" mode (see image #2).

It's still an improvement from before (which was reverting to Duplicate) because at least now the main monitor isn't shrinking down to a tiny screen size to match the laptop. However, I still want to stay at "Show only on 2". Any other ideas?

    Extending Screen to Laptop

Pressing MS KEY + P brings up PROJECT which shows display options PC screen only, Duplicate, Extend, Second screen only. After selecting Extent I then click on the “Connect to a wireless display”. Then I select my laptop that is listed.

That has worked well in the past, but the during a session a few days ago the connection dropped and I have not seen my laptop in the list since.

I have not found any steps to take that actually address this issue.
