Windows 10: External CD/DVD region change error

Hello,


I am having a problem with a new external CD/DVD player I just bought. It came set for Region 2 but I need it to be set for Region 1. I have attempted to change it in Device Manager, and I get the following error: "Please make sure the drive contains a region 1 media and you have administration privilege." The player has 4 region changes left.


I have tried inserting several Region 1 CDs and get the same error. I opened the Device Manger with the Windows Powershell admin, and no luck. I have tried updating the drivers, and uninstalling and reinstalling the player. Same error. Does anyone know how I can get past this error? I've searched the forums here and while there are some similar posts none of them seem to help me.


I am using Windows 10 on an Acer N18C3 laptop.

The CD/DVD player is a Rooful ECD819-SU3.

Windows 10 will not allow any region changes to the DVD driver

I realize the inconvenience you are experiencing with Windows 10. I will certainly help you.



This issue might occur if region settings is done correctly.



I suggest you to follow the steps below to change the region settings from region 2 to region 4 ( Australian).

1. Press Windows Key + R Key.

2. Type “devmgmt.msc” without the quotes and hit on Enter Key.

3. Expand DVD/CD-ROM drives, right-click the DVD drive for which you want to change region settings and then click
Properties.

4. On the DVD Region tab.

5. Under list of regions, scroll down the mouse to search for Australia from the list and click on it.

6. Then region 4 will be listed below, then click on Ok button.

External cd/dvd Drive

This will affect all CD/DVD drives whether internal or external, there’s a limit on how many times you can change the region - usually 5 times - once that’s reached then next time you play a disc it will ‘lock’ the drive to that region.

To assist you better, please provided us the information below:

• What is the make and model of the computer?

I recommend you to uninstall and reinstall the DVD driver in compatibility mode. After reinstalling, try to change the DVD region and check if it helps.



Step 1: I suggest you to uninstall the DVD/CD driver as provided in the previous post.

Step 2: I recommend you to download the DCD/CD driver from the computer manufacturer's website and then try to install the driver in compatibility mode.

1. Right-click on the driver setup file and click on ‘Properties’'.

2. Click on the ‘Compatibility’ tab and check the box ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select Windows 8/8.1 operating system from the drop down menu and proceed with the installation. Once this is done, restart the
computer and check if the issue persists.
