  1. External Dell Gaming Monitor randomly turns off and shuts down computer?

Hi, I have an external monitor that gets recognized when I turn on my computer and startup but then cuts off a few seconds after it's recognized. If I leave it connect, it slips into searching for connection mode and then can't find the signal and turns itself off along with my computer. If I let it go into searching mode and unplug, then replug, it finds the connection and turns off a few seconds later. I have to do this a few times and it eventually stays on. It works fine when connected to my MacBook but only does this when I'm connected to my windows laptop. It's not an Apple, Dell, or Cable issue. It's windows. I have downloaded the drivers for my monitor. So, how do I fix this?

    Thanks!

    :)

Windows 10 Turns Off external monitor screen randomly

I have a Windows 10 64-bit clean installation on Lenovo Thinkpad T420. It has these graphic cards:

    • internal Intel HD Graphics 3000, driver version: 9.17.10.4229 - no new version found using Intel Update utility
    • nVidia NVS 4200M, driver version: 10.18.13.5445 or 10.18.13.6191 - it does the same for both versions
When using external monitor screen connected with VGA (all the time) it randomly:

    • Makes a device disconnected sound
    • Turns-off the external monitor (no-signal)
    • Immediately afterwards makes a device connected sound
    • Turns-on the external monitor and everything works as before
The whole process takes about 10 seconds. It does this randomly - about twice an hour - even
while using the computer (it happened once during writing this post) and it doesn't matter what applications are running (web browser vs. spreadsheets vs. gaming). Sometimes it does this twice even a few seconds apart.

It is not hardware related because all the monitor cables are tightened and even when loosened and wiggled the problem is not present.

What I have already tried using some advices from the internet:

    • Disabling the external nVidia graphic card in Device Manager didn't help.
    • It is not related to YouTube videos (flash?) - it does this even after startup when no application is started.
    • It is probably not related to f.lux (f.lux) - it does this even when f.lux is not started.
    • Disabling the internal Intel graphic card in Device Manager might have helped - I didn't experience the problems for a day, but I can't run some applications with external graphic card only so this is not a permanent solution.
The problem is very annoying and effectively kills all concentration when working on something and the monitor turns off. I'm thinking about going back to Windows 7.

What else can I do to debug the error to solve it?

  3. how to turn off Dell XPS monitor and use only 2 external monitors

I have a Dell XPS with Windows 10. I have it set up in a docking station and want to use only the 2 external monitors, and shut the XPS, not using that monitor. I don't see how to turn off one of the 3 displays. Can you assist? Thank you.

  4. External Dell Gaming Monitor randomly turns off and shuts down computer?

Second monitor not shutting off with shut down.

    Hello again,

By "shut off" I mean that the screen should go black. Currently, it displays a full screen blue color. I used the same BenQ with my prior PC and when the PC shut down the monitor will turn off also and turn back on when the PC is restarted. The first monitor, the ASUS, is working as intended when the PC is shut down.

    Thanks for the input.
