Windows 10: External disk Access denied - Win 10

Greetings fellow frustrated PC owners & operatorsAttempting to recover the data from a notebook that stopped booting “Preparing automatic repair…” message on startup. Replaced the disk and installed Windows and Apps from scratch. Connected the old disk in a USB housing to copy files over. Usually at this point you get to open the disk in File Explorer and navigate to /Users then when you try to open the relevant folder you get blocked and asked if you want to permanently get access to the folder; you click Yes and after a while depending how many files and folders the Explorer has to tr

No access to external hard disks after last window 10 update

Method 1:

Check whether the external hard disk is detected in Device Manager, right click on it and click on Uninstall the drivers. Plug in the external hard drive again so that Windows automatically installs the drivers. Check if the issue persists.

If the issue persists, go to the External hard drive in Windows Explorer, right click on it and select Properties. Click on the Security tab and then click on Edit and click on Add and type Everyone and press enter. Select Everyone from the list and place a
check mark in Full control. Press apply and ok and check if you are able to access the External hard drive.

Method 2:

If you are still unable to access your hard drive, I suggest you to refer to the steps mentioned in the following link and try to take the ownership and check:

'Access denied' when trying to access external hard drive (WD Passport 2tb on Win 10)

I suddenlt can't access my files on my WD passport drive on my Win 10 comp after plugging the drive into a Win 8.1 comp without internet. I'm getting a 'Access denied' error when double-clicking the drive. For the last 24 hours I have tried a lot of things,
done a lot of research and still I can't access my external drive.

• I did try and go to the security tab, but all users and admin were already allowed full access. I can't really change anything for any better in those options.
• I tried the sharing tab as well allowing all access to all users but still access denied.
• I opened the cmd prompt and tried to run the TAKEOWN commands but even though I set the admin to have full access everything is exactly the same: 'Access denied'
  

Is there anyway I can use Windows to gain access to this drive? I cannot afford to lose the files on the drive. Please help.

External hard disks - Access denied - Windows 10

I just purchased a laptop, running on Windows 10. I've been using a WD My Passport Ultra 1.5 TB external hard disk to store my data.

Recently, when I connected this hard disk, it worked for a second and immediately said access denied, and did so even after a couple of restarts and updates.

I thought my hard disk was damaged, but this happened when I connected another hard disk, and USB drive to the laptop as well.

It did not work for any external drive, but only once when I was able to change the permissions, it was able to work, until I had to restart the laptop.

Could anyone help me out with this problem, or must I send it for repair or replacement?

I doubt that my hard disk is damaged, as other external drives show the "Access denied" message as well when connected.

I've tried various solutions including the permissions changing, but it only worked once till I eventually restarted the laptop.

Thank you in advance to anyone who posts a reply and can help me in this and what I can do about it.

Every other external device like a mouse works normally, but only the hard drives have some sort of error.

Please help me with this problem!
