My Icy Dock 4-drive external USB3 drive bay Model MB561U3S-4S R1 cannot be started since upgrading my desktop to Build 18362.1016

It was working just fine an hour ago under Windows 10 version 1809

Ii have also tried plugging it into a laptop running Windows 10 1903 Build 18362.1016 and I get the same error on that machine too.

In Device manager General it says

This device cannot start. Code 10

In the Events tab it says:-

Device USB\VID_152D&PID_0567\152D00539000 had a problem starting.

    Driver Name: usbstor.inf

    Class Guid: {36fc9e60-c465-11cf-8056-444553540000}

    Service: USBSTOR

    Lower Filters:

    Upper Filters:

    Problem: 0xA

    Problem Status: 0xC0000001

Please advise. I need this machine and these drives for my work.

    Cheers

    Steve

External SSD drive Not configured correctly as a USB Mass Storage Device.

    Hi,

My external Samsung SSD drive is working.

But it is not showing up as a USB Mass Storage Device, which it should.

and it does not display Eject in the right click context menu, like other external SSD drives.

Comparing it with other external drives.

The difference is showing at Hardware Properties.

Properties - Hardware (windows menu tab) - Device Properties says "Location: Bus Number 0, Target ID 0, LUN 0" at the bottom.

It should say "Location: on USB Mass Storage Device. " Like my other External drives.

Policies is set to Quick removal (default) which should be fine.

formatting the drive both in exFAT and NTFS. and assigning another drive Letter and using other USB slots on the PC. Did nothing.

Uninstalling/reinstalling the USB drive in Device Manager or Computer Manager did nothing.

    Driver details should be fine.

    C:WINDOWS\system\32\DRIVERS\disk.sys

    C:WINDOWS\system\32\drivers\EhStorClass.sys

    C:WINDOWS\system\32\drivers\partmgr.sys

    And device is working properly.

So I hope someone out there knows how to configure a drive from Location: Bus Number 0, Target ID 0, LUN 0"

to Location: on USB Mass Storage Device.

  3. Quirky behaviour with external HDD

Since you have already checked Device Manager and did not see any errors, we suggest that you manually uninstall the device drivers for your external drives. Doing this will allow the system to install the driver for your external drive automatically and
correct any error. You can follow the steps below to uninstall the device driver:

    • Search for Device Manager via Cortana and hit the
      Enter key.
    • Go to View, and click Show hidden icons.
    • On the Device Manager, check under Universal Serial Bus Controllers (if the drive is connected via USB). The drive should appear as a USB Mass Storage Device.
    • Uninstall the USB Mass Storage Device listed in the Device Manager.
    • Restart your PC.
    • After restarting, allow the default USB Mass Storage Device drivers to be automatically downloaded by windows. Make sure that you are connected to the internet for this process to push through.
    • Reinstall all other drivers from the support website of your External drive.

We look forward to your response after completing the steps.
