Windows 10: External Drive folders destroyed by 2 different laptops

Lost folders on IExternal drive Good day, BACKGROUND: I have long schedule to transfer all my apps & data to a newer laptop. It will be many months because I need to reserve space on the new for future holiday photos lots!. So not all apps installed on new yet. I also have bulk photo data on an external drive. CONTEXT: Old & new both have up to date with Win1064. I have used the external drive alternatively attached to new and old. On the old it is drive G but on the new it is drive D. • Open your External Hard Drive file in File Explorer.
• Type the name of the file you want to search on the search box and click Enter.

The file will show up in Search Results and you will be able to move it to the correct folder.

step 1: try with a different USB cable

step 2: take the drive out of the enclosure and connect it internally to your PC

quite likely the cable or enclosure has died. if you're re-initialising the disk you might actually be erasing it... so dont do that.
