  1. External Drive Needs a Simple Volume created but.......

I have a Seagate 4TB external spinning drive. It has a LOT of very valuable data on it!Until this week it has worked perfectly but on inserting the drive, Windows Explorer is not able to find it.Device Manager found it so I opened up Windows Disk Management. The drive is displayed as basic online but with 3,726 GB unallocated.I ran a recovery programme and 12 hours later it has found 4.3 TB of files and double clicking some of them reveals that the files are still there and openable. Copying only some of these files is going to take forever.Back to Disk Management . Right clicking the unalloc

    :)

  2. Unable to create simple volume on new 1TB hard drive

Just got a brand new HP computer with windows 10 Pro (64bit) preinstalled on an SSD. I am now adding a 1TB sata hard drive for storing data files. New HDD is installed as Disk 1 and is seen by Windows 10. I initialized it as an MBR basic disc. When I try to go to the next step of creating a volume, I right click on disk 1 and there is no option available to create a new simple volume. There are other volume options (mirror, raid, etc) but they are all greyed out. Simple is not even listed as an option. I went to DISKPART and using clean command, took it back to the start, then initialized it as a GBT. That didn't make a difference. Now I'm back to MBR again. I also did a List Volume command under DISKPART and confirmed there is no volume on this drive. I'm stuck. How can I get this drive to the point where I can format it and use it?
    Thanks!

  3. Disc management shows unallocated drive but will not create simple volume

I am using an external Sans Digital raid drive. It has 2 3 GB hard drives set up in raid 0. It is a hardware raid controlled by a switch on the back of the external drive. The raid array is created by the hardware inside the Sans Digital TR4UTBPN.
When I go into disc management it shows the raid array online as Unallocated. I right-click to make a simple volume and nothing happens. Any ideas?

    External drive

    Hi Richard,

There are several factors that can cause your external drive to not read DVDs even though the system is recognizing the device. This could be caused by a driver that needs to updated or corrupted files. For us to resolve your concern, kindly answer the questions
    below:

    • Just to confirm, the device that is not working properly is a external DVD optical drive?
    • Were there any recent changes or updates installed on your computer?
    • Have you tried to plug the external drive to a different port on your computer?

As a initial recommendation, we suggest that your run the built in troubleshooter in Windows 10. Kindly refer to the steps below:

    • Type “Troubleshooting” in the Search bar and press Enter.
    • Click on “View All” in the top left corner.
    • This will display the list of troubleshooters which are built-in in the computer. You can click on
Hardware and Devices from the list and you can run the troubleshooter.

This will check for common errors that affect hardware on your computer and attempts to correct them.

We look forward to your response after completing the steps.
