Windows 10: External DVD drive question

I have a Dell laptop. Along with it I bought a Dell external DVD drive. The drive has about a 12"-15"cable with something I'm going to call an "inductance" clamp near one end of the cable. Some kind of large dongle which appears to be snapped over the cable. I don't see this cable being sold now. Does anyone have any idea what this clamp might be? If I have to find a replacement, I might be screwed. Can the DVD drive work with a normal cable?

If its a 2 in 1 computer, it likely wouldn't not be able to facilitate installation of a DVD drive. Your best option is to purchase an external USB DVD burner.

How to get Windows DVD Player to recognize my external DVD drive using Windows 10

Using external DVD drive on new Dell Latitude computer which has no internal DVD drive. Downloaded Microsoft DVD Player from Microsoft App Store. Install successful. However DVD Player does not seem to recognize my external DVD drive when I hook it up. Any
ideas on what I need to do to get my $15.00 Microsoft DVD Player to work with my external DVD drive?

Probably a ferrite suppressor to minimize the stray RF noise emitted from the cable. Perhaps it's there to achieve FCC compliance.
If you can describe/name the connectors on each end, it would be easier to estimate what a "normal" cable is. The connecting cables for some manufacturer-branded peripherals can be proprietary, but I'd suspect it's plain ole USB here.

 

How about "A Male" that plugs into laptop (standard flash drive type) to "Micro B" that plugs into DVD drive. (current cell phone charger type)

 

OK ... plain ole USB. Any high quality cable, generic or branded, should do it.
