Windows 10: External DVD player disconnects when CD/DVD is inserted

My external DVD player is detected on Windows 10 when plugged in, but when I insert a CD or DVD it keeps disconnecting and reconnecting with no reason. I have a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 with only one usb port. It actually worked the first time I used it, but now it doesn't if I haven't even installed any update.Please, do you know how can I solve this?

1. Do you have burning Software installed ???
2. Does your Computer recognize the DVD Drive in the Device Manager ???

DVD/CD Re-writers are usually the first thing to break down in computers.

• Computers pick up a lot of dust which could cloud the LENS.
• The drive part within it may be worn and malfunctioning ( be it gear or belt and main shaft ).
• The LENS mechanism may be worn out through use and vibration.

Not worth trying to fix as nowadays they are very cheap to purchase.

• The only other thing to try is : Try another brand such as the well known TDK or Verbatim.
• " OR " buy another DVD Re-writer to suit your Desktop or Laptop.
• With Laptops a external DVD Re-writer would be better suited ( such as a LG External ).

For better assistance, provide the answers to the following questions:

• Are you using an external CD/DVD drive?
• Have you made any changes on your device prior to the issue?
• How did you know that your CD/DVD player was not installed? Did you receive an error message?

If you have manually uninstalled the driver, restart your computer. Once the computer restarts, the drivers will be automatically installed.

Let us know if you have any other concerns.

 

dvd player is asking for insert disk while disk is already inserted

I upgraded to Win 10 back in July but have never tried to play a DVD until today.

When I insert a DVD: Windows DVD player fires up and asks me to insert a dvd and then, after a few seconds, closes down.

I have tried to fire up Windows DVD player first and then insert the DVD into the drive, but the same thing happens.

I figure the system "sees" the drive as it appears in the device manager list and I can play CD's but not the DVD.
