  1. External Enclosure Advice for File Transfer to new SSD

Hi,Please could someone help me regarding external enclosures - I have sent my laptop Lenovo gaming laptop/Ideapad away to be upgraded with a better SSD for larger memory/storage, as I've run out of storage. I thought I had backed everything up from my files, however after checking my memory stick I've seen there are a few things missing that I must have somehow forgotten about, so I'm having a bit of a panic that these will be lost forever! The IT technician says he will give my old HDD back to me when I come to collect my upgraded laptop, so I just need to figure out a way of transferring a

    SSD advice

    Hello,

The Samsung EVO series would always be my first suggestion for an SSD, so good choice IMO. In terms of upgrading, I would keep the HDD for extra storage in the system, especially for something like video files. One piece of advice I would give is consider and look around for options concerning transferring your data from the HDD to the SSD.

External SSDs not suitable for large file transfers?

SSDs use less power than HDDs so I don't think it is a power supply issue but it may be power related in that the SSD did get quite warm. Maybe there is an in-built safety algorythm to slow down the transfer rate after 60 seconds to stop the SSD from getting too hot and damaging it? Just a guess on my part but if it is correct then no SSDs are suitable for writing large sequential data to. I am attaching another picture which suggests this might be true.

Transfer data from hard drive to external SSD.

    Hi SoapiestTuna653,

I'm Dyari. Thanks for reaching out. I will be happy to assist you in this regard.

May I know which data are you referring to?

If you are referring to Windows/System Data then use it on another PC, I am afraid that there is no Microsoft native tool to do that. In that case you should use third-party cloning tool like Macrium Reflect.

If it your data is only (photo, video, PDF and etc...) you can transfer it directly. If the external SSD is inside a hard disk enclosure, connect it to your computer then transfer your data by copy & paste:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mov...

If the SSD is not inside any hard disk docking or enclosure, try to get an enclosure as shown in the attached image.

If your computer has another SATA, connect the SSD directly to your computer and use it as a backup drive. Then you can transfer your data directly from File Explorer. (If you do not have much computer hardware knowledge, I recommend taking it to a reliable maintenance shop)

Please let me know if you need further assistance and keep me updated.
