    External hard drive shows up as "portable device" instead of "usb mass storage"


    The drive works fine. Except it continuously goes to sleep. Then, when I try to access the drive again, it kills everything connected to USB keyboard, mouse, etc. for as much as a minute before anything becomes responsive again.This has happened with multiple drives, multiple enclosures, multiple systems, so it is 100% a windows issue.The only solution seems to be disabling power management on the device. Unfortunately, disabling power management on literally every USB controller does no good, and portable devices don't have the option.So how do I get windows to recognize that my hard drive

    Hi there:

    I have a Seagate USB portable drive and I mainly use it to connect to my ASUS Oplay! media player to watch the content on TV.

    This device use to be an USB mass storage device.

    Recently, I noticed whenever I eject my seagte portable drive, the device is showing as ""USB attached SCSI mass storage device" instead of a regular "USB mass storage device". This is when my media player stopped recognising the portable drive (showing
    the device is not supported). The portable drive works fine on my Windows 10 PC, just not recognising by my media player anymore.

    Wondering if anyone can point out how I can restore my portable hard drive back to a generic USB mass storage device instead of being a "USB attached SCSI mass storage device".

    I think that Nokia N95 users and perhaps anyone with a mini usb port connection along with a mass storage acceptance can connect their external hard drive to their phone so obtain an unequivocal memory load of 120GB plus. Has anyone tried to connect their
    external hard drive to their phone?
