Windows 10: External Hard Drive sleeping immediately

I have literally spent days on this issue and could sure use some help. There are dozens and dozens of posts on this, none of which have worked for me.I have multiple external hard disk drives that I use for photo and video editing. They power down frequently and cause massive delays in my workflow. I want to keep them from spinning down. Some of them power down literally within seconds of me not accessing them.I have tried ALL suggested options I have found short of writing scripts or having programs access the drives every X seconds. I'd just like them to stay awake without me having to do t

My USB 3 connected external hard drives go to sleep immediately. I cannot even get Explorer to recognize them before they go to sleep. I have changed all of the power options I can find related to external hard drives going to sleep, but nothing helps.

We suggest that you try the troubleshooting steps below:

• Open your External Hard Drive file in File Explorer.
• Type the name of the file you want to search on the search box and click Enter.

The file will show up in Search Results and you will be able to move it to the correct folder.

Thanks for this. I've done what you suggested and been through all the steps mentioned in the article. The hard drive works fine on a Mac computer, and I've managed to copy the information on it. It must be a Surface issue so I'll try to get a chat line tomorrow.
