Windows 10: External hard drive that worked yesterday now doesn't show up

I have no idea what's going on with my laptop anymore.

I have an external hard drive that I've been using on my laptop for a while now. I even used it yesterday, but today it doesn't show up on my laptop anymore.

The USB port works, as it can detect my phone, but the drive doesn't show up anywhere, including disk management. I've tried several guides to no success.

The light on the drive lights up, so it's getting power.

Hi John,

We suggest that you try the troubleshooting steps below:

• Open your External Hard Drive file in File Explorer.
• Type the name of the file you want to search on the search box and click Enter.

The file will show up in Search Results and you will be able to move it to the correct folder.

Let us know if you need further help.

 

Windows doesn`t start. Authomatic repair doesn`t work.

I`m sorry I had not noticed that the text on the picture was in spanish. It says that windows has replaced some damaged clusters in "name" file and "directory". Then, at the end "an unspecified error occurred (75736e6a726e6c2e 4f6)".

I`ll do it and I`ll be updating this thread when I have the report.

Thanks for this. I've done what you suggested and been through all the steps mentioned in the article. The hard drive works fine on a Mac computer, and I've managed to copy the information on it. It must be a Surface issue so I'll try to get a chat line tomorrow.
