Windows 10: External Hard Drive Toshiba - Laptop crashes when I try and do anything with it

I've got a 1TB toshiba external HD. It stopped working, and now when I plug it in / try and reformat or do anything with it my laptop just crashes! I would be grateful of any help or suggestions :

I understand that the external hard drive is not recognized by the PC. I appreciate your efforts in trying to resolve the issue.
It would be great if you can answer these questions to assist you in a better way.

• Did you try connecting the Hardrive to different USB Port?
  
• Does the Hardrive get detected if you try connecting it to a different PC?
  
• Are you aware of any changes made to the computer recently?
  

I suggest you refer and follow the steps mentioned in the KB article and check if that resolves the issueError:
“USB Device not recognized” when you try to access a USB external hard drive

Note: Ignore method 2 & 5 from the above article.

After Windows 10 update, computer keeps crashing when external Toshiba hard drive is attached

Yesterday, I had down loaded and installed Windows 10 update.

After that Windows kept crashing for over a dozen times. The error message said “System_thread_exception_not_loaded” At that time the external hard drive (Toshiba DTP110) was connected to USB drive. I then removed the USB external drive.

It then installed windows 10 update. As soon as I connected the external Toshiba hard drive, it started crashing and rebooting again with the same error message.

I then left the external hard drive in the USB slot and started the computer again. It gain started crashing with the same error message.

I am now working without the external backup Toshiba drive till you let me know diagnosis and resolve the problem.

Please help.
