Windows 10: external hard drive transfer files to pc

Can someone please refer me to an easy reference to transfer music files from an external hard drive to my laptop with windows 10when i plug in the external hard drive it shows as a device but that's it with some indistinguishable files. The files don't pen in Windows 10. Shouldn't they?I know this is not an MS question per se but I've looked and what I find on youtube isn't helpful, yet.How do I drop and drag if that is how it is still done or copy and paste?Thanks

We suggest that you try the troubleshooting steps below:

• Open your External Hard Drive file in File Explorer.
• Type the name of the file you want to search on the search box and click Enter.

The file will show up in Search Results and you will be able to move it to the correct folder.

Hello.

Connect your External Hard drive to your PC

Open Windows File Explorer

On the left, click Pictures

On the right, find the photos you want to transfer to the external drive

Right click those photos or their containing folder and choose 'Send To' - your external drive will be bottom of the 'Send To' list

That's It, wait for those to transfer across . . .
