Windows 10: External HDD showed up in Disk Management as {Not initiated} but is shown correctly in...

Hi all,I'm using a Western Digital MyBook External HDD 2 x 1 TB HDD. It is showing up as {Not initiated} in Disk Management and Windows prompt me to initialise the disks before using. As I have important data on the disk, I did not take the option. I notice that when I moused over the [Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media] icon on the status bar, it showed the External HDD and I can eject the media.I ejected the media/shutdown & restart a couple of times but nothing changes. I'm in dire need of help from experts on there. I'm not a very technical person when it comes to PC but I will t

external hard drive showing up in device management but not disk management

Hi,

I recently tried to use a brand new Seagate 2TB External HD, but it is not showing up. It initially showed up, but after I tried reformatting it to exFAT32, it disappeared from the disk management list.

I then tried:

• refreshing the disk management list,
• inserting into a different USB port,
• re-starting my computer, and
• uninstalling the device from device manager/letting it refresh,

I still can't see it. There is no yellow error in the USB controller list.

I'm on Windows 10.

Intel i5-3317U @ 1.7GHz

hdd not initialized

Hi,

is it a new HDD? Internal or external? New internal HDDs need to be initialized manually thru Disk management.

 

My new HDD is not showing up on disk manager, but shows up in BIOs

I tried doing that and the 4TB HDD (which would be disk 2 in this case) is not showing up in the disk list, just the first 2 disks aka disk 0 and disk 1

how would i do the rest of the steps if the HDD isn't in the CMD list disk at all?
