Windows 10: External Monitor displaying at 1920x1080 and not 2560x1080

I purchased an LG34UM69G-B monitor and plugged it directly into my Surface Pro (5th Gen) using a cable that plugs into the PC that goes from USB-C out to HDMI. After downloading the drivers from the LG Website and turning on the display I got the notice that the proper resolution was not being run at. I went to display settings and this is what I see.

and none of that managed to work, my windows 10 is up to date, my display drivers are up to date, I don't know what else to do.

Any help would be appreciated.

External Monitor with Quicken

It is possible that the display resolution automatically adjusts after connecting to an external monitor. For us to properly isolate this issue, we have some questions for you:

• Are you experiencing the same issue even without using the Quicken tool?
• Have you checked if the display resolution settings of the Surface device and the external monitor is the same?
• Have you tried checking for a graphics device driver update?

External monitor is blurry

Microsoft V2 Wireless Display Adapter screen resolution issue.

• Have you made any recent changes to your computer prior to the issue?
• The only change I made was yesterday when I bought the adapter and plugged it in.
• Is there any error messages when you attempt to change the resolution?
• No error messages. 1920x1080 is the highest option I have with the wireless adapter.
• Have you also tried updating your Display driver and see if it makes any difference? If you still haven't, you can follow the steps below on how you can update it.
• BestBuy updated all of the drivers in my laptop 2 weeks ago, and last Friday they checked again. I downloaded the latest drivers/updates/firmware tonight, but still... 1920x1080 is the highest option I get. 2560x1080 is the monitor recommended
  resolution, and works perfect.

Like I said earlier, when I was using an HDMI cable I had the option to set the resolution at 2560x1080. At 1920x1080 I lose so much of the screen it's almost not worth having the second monitor.

I appreciate your help, and I hope we can find the solution.
