  1. External Monitor - Preboot Blackscreen

    Hi guys,

I`m not sure if this is the right place to ask this but i really need help. I have a laptop ... MSI GT73VR 6RF. After few months i`ve got this monitor as a gift from a friend: Acer Predator XB271HK. My problem is that i`m unable to see anything on the monitor until Windows 10 is loaded. Having a preboot password, this is a pain in the a## as it`s not an easy password and i don`t know if i write it correctly without opening the laptop lid.

I have 3 cables. HDMI to HDMI, MiniDP to DP and USB-C to DP. None of them are working. I would like to point our that my laptop does not have Nvidia Optimus. The laptop runs directly on the Nvidia GPU. Also there is no option in BIOS for the GPU and there is no key combination for the laptop to go on the external monitor during the preboot (ex FN+F4 or + F2 ... etc. I`ve seen people on Google with different laptops, that FN+F4 (or something) is working for them. )

I asked this question on MSI forums 4 months a go but i have no answer.

Could this be because laptops don`t have DP or HDMI going out directly from the GPU ? If yes then how come other people with different and older laptops don`t have this problem.

Really need help with this as my laptop is on a vertical stand with cables and sh#t, behind the monitor and it`s annoying to get the laptop out and open the lid to insert the password.

    Cheers

    :)

Windows10 blackscreen on boot, no BIOS splash screen

    Day2, add something more.

After powered up, CPU disks and GPU are working(heating), and the screen still black.

    Connect to monitor, still blackscreen.

    Hardware all good.

  3. Black screen after Windows 10 upgrade AND unable to enter Bios to change boot order

As you recommended, I eventually changed the monitor I'd been using. Incredibly, It got me out of the blackscreen and into a responsive blue one. Who wudda thunk? Many thanks.

See if there's some setting in BIOS to set default output. Unless that can be done, secondary monitor will have to wait until drivers are loaded.
Windows Key+P — switch between display modes (with a secondary display connected) probably will not work at that stage but you could try.
Another option would be to switch to automatic logon.

  5. No bios setting for default output. From what i gathered, some people with Nvidia Optimus have that option in BIOS
Win + P not working either *Sad

Than there's only option to make it log on automatically because proper GPU drivers are not loaded until windows loads completely. At the start only basic GPU drivers are loaded.
