    External monitors don't align properly when snapping in "Display Settings"

    Hi,

    Windows version: Windows 10 Pro 1909 18363.778

    I am using a Dell XPS 15 9570 laptop with a 4k touch screen and 2 identical AOC 1080p monitors, they are attached to the laptop via dell dock D3100 using HDMI cables. All devices are set to their recommended resolutions and the 4k screen has 200% scaling on I've tried with/without below, it makes no difference

    Also; the 2 monitors are connected to a desktop via display port cables and it's not a problem on there when I use it.

    If I go into "Display Settings" and snap the 2x 1080p monitors above the 4k screen one of them always snaps lower than the other. I have been at this for a while and they will not correctly align no matter what I try - it causes an annoying issue in some apps where if you try to pick up the maximised window, with your cursor at the very top of the screen, it grabs the window behind it however if I snap the windows below the 4k screen, they line up only tried this for example's sake.

    Just wondering if there's a fix/tweak for this?

    Example of misalignment when above the 4k screen below, all 3 visible windows are maximised - note the black bar at the top of the left screen, which isn't visible on-screen and also the misaligned taskbars;

    Example of the monitors below the 4k screen lining up as expected;

    Windows 10 Multiple Monitor Alignment: Unwanted Snapping & Lack of precise placement

    I have two monitors that vary slightly in vertical resolution: my first monitor is 1680x1050 and my second monitor is 1920x1080. I like to have them side-by-side with the top of the displays aligned. However, when I go to "Customize your display" and attempt
    to align the monitors vertically, because the resolutions are so similar they will always snap such that the bottom of both displays are aligned, and not the top (see image below). I have managed to align them properly by holding Ctrl to disable automatic
    snapping and dragging them into place in a pixel-perfect manner, but that tedious process only succeeds occasionally. Sometimes, even if it appears the two monitors are lined up, they may be off by just one pixel and I must retry again and again until they
    are lined up properly. Is there an easier way to properly align the monitors? Ideally I would like the monitors to snap by the top, or be able to adjust the relative placement of each display exactly as needed.

    External monitor display settings

    Hi,

    Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

    I understand that you are facing issues with the display scaling on your external displays. We will certainly look into this for you.

    As you are using Vizio TV, you may have to try using custom resolution settings if the in-built settings do not provide the required settings.

    For better clarity, please let us know:

    • What is the version of Windows 10 that is currently installed on your computer? You can click on Search and type
      winver.
    • Are you aware of any recent changes to the system, such as updates, after which you are facing this issue?
    • What is the make and model of your computer?

    Meanwhile, I would suggest you to check the steps mentioned in the Workaround section in

    Windows scaling issues for high-DPI devices

    I would also suggest you to check the Display drivers. Please refer

    Let us know how it goes.

    External Monitor with Quicken

    Hi Mark,

    It is possible that the display resolution automatically adjusts after connecting to an external monitor. For us to properly isolate this issue, we have some questions for you:

    • Are you experiencing the same issue even without using the Quicken tool?
    • Have you checked if the display resolution settings of the Surface device and the external monitor is the same?
    • Have you tried checking for a graphics device driver update?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done to isolate the issue?

    We're looking forward to your response.
