Windows 10: External monitors window contents unreadable lines

I have two external monitors connected to a laptop, one directly via HDMI port and the other via HDMI through a docking station. Lately I'll be working and move or open a window (it doesn't matter what program, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and the window contents will switch to these weird horizontal lines. If I move the window around, change the size, move it to a different screen, eventually I find something where the contents appear again. It will also happen where the contents of the window are there but the navigation ribbons have the weird lines. Here are some examples;




I'm posting this even though the problem is on my work computer and I have limited options to personally make changes on my computer - but hoping I can bring something to my IT department to help solve the problem.


I already suggested that it was maybe a video driver that needed updating but they've updated all of that and it's still happening all the time. What is this and how can we fix it?


My computer is running Windows 10 Enterprise version 1803 64-bit OS x64-based processor, Intel i5-4300M CPU @ 2.6GHz 4.0 GB RAM

External monitor blanking often

Please answer these questions to assist you better.

• What is the make and model of your computer and external monitor?
• Have you installed all pending Windows and driver updates?
• Do you get any error message?

I suggest you to install all pending Windows updates in your PC and also update Display drivers. Follow the steps below.

Step 1: I would suggest you to check and install any latest Windows Updates available.

• Go to Start and then Settings.
• Click on Update and Recovery.
• Check for updates under
  Windows Updates.
• Restart the system and check if the issue is resolved.

1. Since when are you facing this issue?
   

This issue might be happening because of the faulty drivers. That’s the reason you are getting intermittent connection on external monitor.

However, you may try the below suggested steps.

Step 1: Try connecting on a different monitor and check if the issue still persists.

Step 2: Try using a different VGA cable to connect with external monitor and check the status of the issue.

Step 3: Update display driver adapters

You may refer the article

Step 4: Check for an updated Video driver on the

Acer drivers and Manuals page.
