Windows 10: External speakers not playing when the laptop lid is open

When I open my laptop lid the sound comes out of the laptop speakers. When I close the lid the sound comes out of my external speakers. From the settings I can see when the laptop lid is open the only audio output is the laptop speakers but when the lid is closed then my external speakers appear. This only started happening recently. I have not changed settings or anything. How do I fix this?

• Have you connected the external monitor to the Laptop?
• Did you make any recent changes prior to the issue?

This issue might have caused due to the power settings for the closing of LID is set to sleep mode.

I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it helps.

• Press Windows + X keys and select the Control Panel.
• Select Power options by searching in search box.
• Right side select Change Plan setting next to the power plans.
• Select the Change advanced Power plan settings.
• Under the list select and expand Power buttons and lid.
• Select Turn off the display under the drop down of setting.
• Click Apply. Ok.
• Close the LID and Check if the issue resolves.

Playing sound through external speakers and laptop speakers at the same time.. is it possible to prevent windows from turning off the main laptop speakers when connecting external speakers

 

bluetooth external speaker won't play music

hi,

i am having problems connecting my laptop via bluetooth to an external soundbar specifically the LG SJ8.

it pairs and connects, but when i play music, no sound comes out of the external soundbar. the laptop speakers are still the ones being used.

when i try to choose the output device, the soundbar is not listed as an option. only the laptop speakers are listed.

it was working fine before, but i am guessing that as a result of a windows update, something went wrong.

i tried connecting my back-up laptop to the soundbar using bluetooth but i get the same problem.

i have another external speaker, the Bose Mini Soundlink, and for some reason that device connects fine and plays music normally.

would appreciate your help here.
