Windows 10: External usb slim drive cd/dvd player.

I bought a USB 3.0 Portable Optical Slim CD/DVD Burner Player RW Drive. It's from Mekkoz. I bought it on Amazon.

It's plug & play. That part works, but it won't recognize any media, even with discs I know works in other devices. The driver is up to date supposedly.

It also says to install "VLC MEDIA Player" to play DVD/CD if your device in using Windows 10 operating system, which mine is Win 10 Pro 64x

Brand new computer..

What do you advise, other than returning it?

ASUS Readies Slim, Stylish External DVD-Writer Drive

ASUS showed off a new compact external DVD-Writer drive, a yet to be named model that the company refers to as the "Extreme Slim External DVD-RW Drive." The drive is roughly the size of two CD cases, at 14 mm thickness. It is essentially a notebook/slim optical drive inside a sleek, gray brushed-metal enclosure that takes both power and connectivity from its USB 2.0 cable. The unit weighs 320 g. The drive writes DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+RW at 8x, DVD-RW, double-layer DVD-R/+R at 6x, and DVD-RAM at 5x. CD-R is written at 24x, CD-RW at 16x. ASUS did not give out pricing details, yet.

USB connections non-responsive...printers & external DVD-CD drive

I cannot get either of two printers connected via usb to respond. Also, a usb connected external DVD-CD drive is non-responsive. When I check the device manager the DVD-CD drive is not listed, and the printers have updated drivers as do the usb controllers.
This problem-a-day since upgrading to Windows 10 is getting pretty old!
