I had the same thing happen to me on my NVMe production PC. I used MiniTool Partition Wizard (MTPW) (free version). Same kind of approach: right-click on improper volume, select "Change Letter" from pop-up menu, then select "None" as the letter to be assigned. I know this works, because I've already done it myself.

Extra recovery partition after Windows 10 1709 update

The recommendation would be to not touch the recovery partitions. You'd just be asking for problems if you did.

If it is still a concern of yours a clean install while deleting all partitions at the start may be your only way to retrieve the < 1GB of storage.

I have the same problem... It's very annoying because Windows always complains about low disk space

D: is not supposed to be visible, it is a Recovery partition.
From Disk Management: Right click on D: ->Change Drive Letter and Path... ->Remove

Oh ok, is that also the reason windows keeps telling me there is low space on 'Local Disk D:' because it is visible.

Cannot seem to find the option you have suggested.

    No, that's not the reason.
Right click on D: from Disk Management

Sorry, I forgot this is a special type of partition, Cannot do it from disk management. We have to use diskpart.
Open Admin command prompt: Win+X->Command Prompt(Admin) then type:

*Arrow Remove Drive Letter in Windows 10 Windows 10 Tutorials

    diskpart
    select disk 0
    select partition 1
    remove
    exit

Thanks for the help worked a charm, i used the steps below for anyone with the same problem as 'select disk/partition' did not work for me.

    1. Open Windows PowerShell (Admin)
    2. Type in "diskpart" and press enter
    3. Type in "list vol" and press enter
    4. Find which volume listed D: and type in "select volume #" where # is a number
    5. Type in "remove" then press enter and D: will be removed from File Explorer
