Windows 10: Extreme Windows 10 fail, Laptop seems in peril

I lent my laptop to my brother 24 hours ago and not long after the machine is seemingly ruined. Turning on the machine is ok, the sign in screens appear as normal, both mine and his account. When logging in to either account however constant flickering and black screen issues, not display issues per say but task manager and the desktop turning black then reappearing, but task manager overlayed remains constant. I tried updating display drivers but they said they were current. Flickering does not occur in safe mode, but I can't use windows defender to scan for virus's.As far as I'm aware the on

When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

Then if the issue persists, please return to the trouble shooting list in post# 89

I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.

 

Windows 10 update failed, now laptop extremely slow

Hello,

I have already posted a similar question to this which was a while ago but I am still in need of assistance. My laptop is extremely slow after it failed updating Windows 10. I do not know what solutions to try. I attempted doing a Clean Install, but was
just met with frustration from me not completely understanding what steps to take and the snail-like speed of my laptop. I am just considering taking the laptop to a place to have it fixed, but it seems like a lot of money I hope I dont need to spend.

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
