Windows 10: Extremely high ping on PC after trying to upload a file to Discord

Yesterday evening I was playing an online game and I used microsoft capture to take a 30-second video, I began to upload it to a Discord (chatroom/media program) server but it was taking an extremely long time and since my internet has poor upload speeds I cancelled it after a couple of minutes. I noticed my ping in-game spiked to 550+, and normally when I upload a screenshot my ping normally spikes from 40-60 to around 250, as more bandwidth is being taken up, so a ping of 550 is very unusual. However, whereas when I finish uploading a screenshot normally, my ping quickly goes down to normal within a few seconds, but even afterwards it still remained at around the 550 mark and stayed there. I exited the game and went off and on the wifi, restarted my game several times but to no success. I even turned off my router and turned it back on again, still no fix, and I was constantly getting timed out when trying to join servers alot of the time, and it takes a long time to even join servers which aren't modded. This morning I turned on my pc and the problem remains, I used several websites to test my latency and even they say my ping is around the 500+ mark, I have also noticed its not just my game that has terrible lag now, its my whole pc when it comes to internet, and even takes nearly a second just to send 1 message on discord text channels when before it was instant. I am not very technical when it comes to computers and I have no idea how to fix this, I am re-installing my game now but I doubt that will help. Advice would be greatly appreciated!

Windows 10 High Ping on Games

Is it before the CSGO update or after. Lots of people are reporting this issue after the update. They are saying that the new update has messed up the routing or something. I would suggest to try connection optimizer like Kill Ping. It will bypass all the
nodes in between and directly connect you to game server.

You can try pinging your router to see if ping is excessively high between your computer and it. If it is you may have a faulty Ethernet cable or interference on your wireless network.

Type the following in the command prompt.
Code: ping 192.168.1.1[/quote] You can also substitute IP addresses for various website URLs to see if you get varying pings from different websites.

Code: ping www.google.com[/quote] The "tracert" command is also very useful for discovering where the latency is occurring between you and a designated location.

for example:

Code: tracert www.speedtest.net[/quote] this will give you a list of the amount of time it takes for your data to travel between each device it encounters on its way to www.speedtest.net. This is called a "hop".

If you have a long hop between your modem and the servers at your ISP (look for a hop with your ISP's name somewhere in its name) followed by short hops when the data leaves your ISP's infastructure then you know the trouble is with your ISP and not with your equipment. If you have consistently high ping throughout all hops you could have a malware problem

Knowing where the excess lag is occurring is the first step to figuring out how to fix it.
